Wrapping Women in Confidence
About Us
Sisterhood Boutique opened in 2013 in the African Development Center then moved in 2015 to the current Sisterhood Building. East African girls in the Cedar Riverside community didn't have Job opportunities, so they worked with Pillsbury United Communities to create a program for women by women. The idea started in Brian Coyle Community Center and the entrepreneurial visions of the young girls. Originally named “Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarf,” we mostly go by the Sisterhood or Sisterhood Boutique now, but we love that some still remember our beginnings.
We offer fall and summer internships that focus on sustainable fashion, entrepreneurship, and community building. We welcome female identifying and gender expansive youth ages 14-24. We remain true to our roots offering internships to East African youth in the Cedar riverside area. If you love fashion, sustainability, and community, we encourage you to apply! If you are interested in sustainable fashion, entrepreneurship, and community, please follow our Instagram for updates on internship opportunities.
We work with young people ages 14-24 in store who are interested in learning about retail and the community we serve at Sisterhood. We prioritize utilizing local businesses in the area and continue to grow our resources to help build our community. We go on community walks and field trips around the area with our cohorts! Towards the end of the internship they have put together a resume, practiced interviewing, networked with professionals and businesses who encourage them to apply, and are mentored by women into finding 2nd or 3rd jobs. Join us by following our social media, shopping or donating to Sisterhood Boutique.

We continue to make deeper connections in our community! We table at the West Bank Business Associations Cedar Fest and Host Bonner students from Augsburg University. We have also begun participating in after-school programs at Minneapolis Public Schools called “Sisterhood 101,” which includes teaching self-care, sustainable fashion, and entrepreneurship. During the school year, we have our after-school programs take a field trip to Sisterhood to familiarize themselves with the history of the store.
The possibilities are unlimited at the Sisterhood - affordable women's fashion, spa days, fashions shows, community service days, youth programs, college internships, pop-up shops, collaborations, networking, business planning, engaging in community, and more. Come talk to us about how Sisterhood can be a part of your life and vice versa!
